The origins
The History of Cioccafè begins with Laura Ferruolo, who inherits from her grand father the Neapolitan ancient art of making sugar-coated almonds. In 1970 she founds the “Confettificio Ferruolo” with her husband Felice Basile. During quite a few years the Confettificio Ferruolo manufactures and commercialises all kind of coated almonds, allowing “ Maestro Sor Felice”, as Felice Basile is still known today, to strengthen and improve his already rich experience in the manufacture of sugar almonds and other sweet products.
From coated almonds to chocolate
In early 90’s there is a slow however inexorable conversion of the company from the production of coated almonds to that of chocolate pralines. In September 1995, after several tests, Maestro Sor Felice creates a praline made of a bean of “Santos” coffee, wood roasted and tasty plain chocolate coated. This praline will soon be called “ Cioccafè”. The product meets a quick and resounding success: new machines are installed, the staff is increased and the Cioccafè brand is internationally patented. On March 9, 2000, Maestro Sor Felice with his son Salvatore and his daughter Annalisa, founds Cioccafè S.r.l.
The development
Early in 2001 a full revision concerning organization, logistics and finance is decided with the aim to provide the company with a strong, dynamic and efficient structure, all supported by stipulating contracts of distribution and commercial co-operation with sectorial Italian and foreign companies. In August 2001 the manufacturing units are all moved to a new and bigger structure.
The present
The production place of Cioccafè is presently in Aprilia, an industrial town in the south of Rome. In the new plant the ancient recipes are realized through modern technologies, what allows big quantities to be combined with top quality. Local subsidiary companies and international partners frame the Cioccafè organization, which is led with passion and geniality since 30 years by Maestro Sor Felice, who likes to remind that: ” We are and will always remain craftsmen….in sweetness..”
